My understanding in self-publishing is that, as the all-consuming hegemon, Amazon will always be 90+% of your sales even if you make it big. So at most you are risking not making that extra 10%, if and only if you make a hit. So the chances of you making the money back on the ISBN purchase for wide distribution are rather slim. Is that incorrect? That being said, the book being handcuffed to amazon does feel wrong on a visceral level.

There has also been a computer bug on Amazon, too. It happens when someone uploads a manuscript, then uploads a correction, before the deadline. This bug causes the first manuscript you uploaded to be published, not the corrected version. So never upload something you're not happy with readers seeing.

I admit I am confused. With Amazon you can do Extended Distribution which allows your book to be sold places other than Amazon; i.e. a Bookstore could order it even with the free ISBN....At least that is what I have had in the past.

Hi MK, thanks for the video. The page count makes sense. However, if my PDF is 8 1/2' by 11 " and the book is going to be 6' by 9', what's the best way to determine the new page count? For instance, your Vanlife book is a smaller sized book. I believe you wrote it in a standard Word Doc. If it was a 300 page PDF at 8.5X11, how do you determine the page count for shrinking it down to a 6X9? Is there a tool in Kindle? Do you take the file to Word and change the margins? Any advice is helpful. I am trying to determine how large to make the spine.

I'll be issuing the second edition of my book, published in 2008. At that time, today's ADHD was ADD. And ADD is in my title AND sub-title. Is It You, Me, or Adult A.D.D.? Can you add text over an image wit Scribus. For example I have a full page image in the background on the page before a chapter beginning and I want to add a quote on top of it.

Well the 70% comes with a .15 MB delivery charge on my account while the 35% does not. And for a 300MB ebook file it says I have to pay delivery charge around $45 for each sale if I want the 70% rate.

My burning question was - if I choose to, must I file with the US copyright office prior to publishing? Which you answered - no need, best to do after - THANK YOU! That's one less thing to stress about prior to publication.

All your videos have been so helpful, I am working on getting my book published and had talked to my local bookstore about getting the book in there. I was a little confused when she told me the minimal requiremnts that they had (a professional edit and being able to find it on ingram) but these videos have been very helpful for me to understand the process and feel less overwhelmed by the entire thing.
